Richard passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, his family by his side. He was an extremely caring and intelligent man who lived his values of love, generosity and giving. His gracious and purposeful demeanor enriched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of spending time with him. Richard will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know him.

He was born in Woodland, Washington, and after two weeks his family moved to the Mount Tabor area in Portland, where he was raised. Graduating from Benson High School he went on to advance his education in real estate and marketing. Richard was very focused and industrious; and working full time while raising seven children he met the love of his life, Linda. Richard and Linda were married in 1974 and enjoyed many years of family, friends, traveling, fine food and good wine.

Richards’s kind heart and unsurpassed intellect cannot be overstated. When the kids were young he started a neighborhood science club for the children. Richard was a natural teacher who taught by example. Later on in life at Leopold and Stevens as the Marketing Manager he was known as “the most honest human being ever met.” He was a consummate mentor, father, friend and husband who genuinely cared about each and every person. Richard retired as real estate Sales Manager for the Port of Portland at age 55 in 1983. During the remainder of his working career, he started and ran his own business as an industrial real estate broker.

Richard is predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Karoline (Gearhart), his three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his lovely wife Linda and his children; Sherrie (Bill) Triest, Steve (Patti), Tom (Loretta), John (Christy), Suzie (Wayne) Bell, David and Joe Gearhart. Most wonderfully he is survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held by his family on Sunday Oct 9th, 2016 and no further services are planned at this time.
